Cardinal soccer team still unbeaten
The seventh-ranked Stanford women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 win over Auburn in the first game of the Georgia/Nike Invitational in Athens, Ga., on Friday.Freshman Lindsay Taylor scored her third of the season and assisted on sophomore Morgan Redman's first of the season, while sophomore Christen Press tallied her fourth.
Stanford will complete play in the tournament by playing No. 22 Georgia today, then return home for the Stanford Invitational, which begins Friday when the Cardinal play North Carolina at 7 p.m.
Women's volleyball
Foluke Akinradewo hit a career-high .923 and led third-ranked Stanford with 12 kills in 25-15, 25-22, 25-22 sweep of 19th-ranked Illinois on Saturday at the Billiken Invitational in St. Louis.
The win marked the second this season over a ranked opponent for the Cardinal (4-1). The loss was Illinois' first in five matches.
In the second set, Akinradewo pounded her 1,353rd career kill at 14-13 to join the school's 10 all-time kill leaders. Her team-high five blocks on the afternoon moved her up a notch on the all-time blocks chart, tying Barbara Ifejika for seventh place (425).
Sophomore Alix Klineman turned in 10 kills, and senior Cynthia Barboza added eight kills and 11 digs.
Stanford lost 3-0 to host Saint Louis last night. The Cardinal returns home to host the Stanford Invitational beginning Thursday, when the Cardinal faces New Mexico State at 7 p.m.
