Donation puts 200 laptops in Palo Alto schools

Laptops will be more prevalent in local classrooms after the Los Altos-based technology company Rambus donated 200 computers to the Palo Alto Unified School District.

The three-year-old machines will be used in classrooms and libraries, and some may be available for students to check out for projects, said Marie Scigliano, the district's technology director. Exactly how the laptops will be divvied among the schools has not yet been decided.

The computers have arrived at the district, but are still in boxes and may need some upgrades before they can be used, Scigliano said.

Superintendent Kevin Skelly said in a statement, "Rambus' contribution helps students with everything from writing reports, researching projects, to creating new ideas. We appreciate the support from the Rambus team."
