County video hits YouTube

YouTube, meet San Mateo County government.

This week, the county posted a new promotional video in its first foray onto the popular video Web site.

With dreamy images of frolicking deer, gently breaking waves and smiling office workers, officials hope the 7-minute, 37-second video acts as a recruitment tool for prospective employees and a visitor's guide for tourists.

It features interviews with County Manager John Maltbie in which he describes the virtues of the county's business community, government programs and varied ecology.

County officials paid South San Francisco-based KM2 Communications $24,000 to produce that video and another based on the 2007 Adolescent Report prepared by the Youth Commission, which has not yet been released.

The video is available at www.youtube.com/user/smcounty.
