"THE BEST OF CAL TJADER: LIVE AT THE MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL"This dazzling collection of performances by Cal Tjader, spanning from 1958 to 1980, reflects the ultra-cool vibraphonist's remarkably influential career. STEVE CROPPER & FELIX CAVALIERE - "NUDGE IT UP A NOTCH"
If the Rascals had recorded for that horn heaven, Stax Records, in Memphis, it might have sounded like this searingly soulful new album. With his earthly vocals and organ wailing, Felix Cavaliere was the Rascals' prime force. Legendary Stax producer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Cropper has enlisted Cavaliere to create an R&B classic. This isn't nostalgia; it's urgent, emotional and real.
CHIP TAYLOR - "NEW SONGS OF FREEDOM"
The writer of such classic tunes as "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning" deserves to be heard on this quietly forceful collection. Chip Taylor's unassuming, casual approach allows this mix of country, folk, rock and politics to subtly seep into your consciousness.
RICHIE HAVENS - "NOBODY LEFT TO CROWN"
Returning to his original label, Verve, folk singer/guitarist Richie Havens displays the same energy and intensity he had in the '60s. In addition to powerful originals, he delivers a rousing cover of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."

Boogie-inflected piano and bluesy vocals enhance this entertaining collection.
MARIA MULDAUR - "YES WE CAN!"

TEDDY THOMPSON - "A PIECE OF WHAT YOU NEED"
Singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson, who plays Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Sept. 19, delivers amazingly catchy tunes and bitingly witty, often self-deprecating lyrics, on the new album "A Piece of What You Need." Terrific vocals make the material even more compelling.
THE GRASCALS - "KEEP ON WALKIN'"
An instant smash, this record delivers scorching bluegrass numbers like "Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms" with the velocity of a runaway train. With harmonies as tight as the instrumentation, the Grascals are more energizing than a case of Jolt Cola.

HUDSON BROTHERS - "RAZZLE DAZZLE SHOW" DVD
