Vic and Norma Hesterman celebrate 50 years
Vic and Norma Hesterman, of Los Altos Hills, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Palo Alto. The event included a vesper service, a dinner and a program of original music, toasts and a slide show in their honor, planned and given by their children. Out-of-state guests were from Alabama, Iowa, South Dakota and New York. The couple met as students at Iowa State University, where they were married on June 15, 1958. Vic's employment at SRI brought them to California. He recently retired from Hewlett-Packard where he was a research engineer and physicist for 20 years.
Norma taught art for 10 years and was employed at Gunn High School in Palo Alto for 21 years. Both are very involved in community agencies and in their church, where Vic has served as an elder and Norma has taught in the education program for more than 40 years.
They enjoy hiking, music, gardening and grandchildren. They have four children and have served 21 foster children, several of whom attended the celebration. They have 12 grandchildren and six foster-grandchildren.
Their children are Hew Hesterman (and his wife Catherine), of Vacaville, Anne Schoepp (husband Alan), of Ben Lomond, Sara Macy (husband Patrick), of Scotts Valley and Andrew (wife Donna), of Auburn, Alabama.
